Laura Mulvey's Theory
Visual Pleasure & Narrative Cinema (1975)
This theory by Laura Mulvey goes against what she says about films and media texts. She argues that in her theory that the camera is that of the "Male Gaze", which is active. The narrative is male directed in which their gaze towards female characters.
However, in my MUSIC VIDEO goes against Laura Mulvey Theory, which would actually be to her delight! The girl featured in my music video has agency, in which she drives the plot along, and the gaze of the camera is that of the female featured. We witness her thoughts and feelings and see what she see of her ex lover and her reactions. The male featured is passive, because we don't ever get his side of view or thoughts on the situation shown. He also could be seen as the object of erotic desire, but only breifly and that is when we see how they was together, but because of him breaking up with her, we dont actually see him in this way, we feel betrayal and confusion.
